Metrowerks and Embedded Planet Team Up To Deliver New Networking Development Systems

Affordable, High Value Development Systems Aimed at Shortening Development Cycles for Networking Engineers

Metrowerks and Embedded Planet today announced that they will jointly deliver new Networking Development Systems that bundle the CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with Embedded Planet's target hardware using Motorola's PowerQUICC(tm) and PowerQUICC II processors.

The Networking Development System's combination of integrated software, hardware, firmware, and an easy-to-use window-based interface will help engineers bring their products to market faster and more easily. With support for the Embedded Planet PowerPC computing solutions, the CodeWarrior(r) tool suite enables engineers to start writing application code on proven hardware targets right out of the box.

"The combination of CodeWarrior development tools and hardware from Embedded Planet will provide engineers with an affordable, high value development solution for the networking market," said John Smolucha, vice president of marketing, Metrowerks.

"The CodeWarrior IDE already simplifies embedded systems development, and our partnership with Embedded Planet will further reduce the work an engineer has to do to get their code running on Internet and wireless infrastructure products, where the PowerQUICC and PowerQUICC II processors lead the market."

Embedded Planet's products showcase Motorola's 823, 850, 860, and 8260 microprocessors on production ready PC/104 modules, enabling engineers to immediately develop their application with high performance in mind.

Mark Lowdermilk, Embedded Planet CEO, commented, "Embedded Planet is excited to provide Metrowerks with PowerQUICC and PowerQUICC II based products. This alliance provides a great development tool for hardware and software engineering teams to work closely together by leveraging our products bundled with CodeWarrior(r). Our production quality computing solutions allow OEMs to quickly move through design and development and deploy their product on time. There are real cost and time savings to this integration, especially in the Networking marketplace." The Networking Development System includes a WireTAP(r) run control device from Applied Microsystems. This device allows for fine control of application code execution and download using the Metrowerks CodeWarrior source code debugger.

Pricing and Availability

The Networking Development Systems will be available from Metrowerks in Q2 2001 for Motorola's PowerQUICC (MPC823, 850, 860, 855) and in Q3 for PowerQUICC II (MPC8260). Pricing for the Networking Development Systems will start under USD$5000. Complete schematics, source code for firmware, and board support packages are available from Embedded Planet. RTOS support will include Linux and other leading solutions.
